Stop the Killing : Build the Peace

The war in Ukraine has been running for weeks. 4.6 million people have fled ukraine, thousands of civilians have been killed and thousands of soldiers on both sides have been killed. Rumours of potential chemical warfare come out and stories of potential war crimes leak out on all sides.

The world faces a choice, does it continue to fan the flames of war or does it push for peace? We need you to email the Foreign Secretary this month, as Britain takes the role of President of the UN Security Council, and ask it to use its position not just to call out the crimes of war but to push for a ceasefire and a return to peace talks.

Urgent need for a cease fire in Ukraine
The special military operation launched by Russia in Ukraine on 24 February continues to create a devastating humanitarian disaster for its people and poses a significant threat to the wider world through the veiled threat of the use of nuclear capability.
The conflict has so far cost 1,151 Ukrainian civilian deaths, including 103 children, and 1,824 casualties.<a href="#_ftn1" name="_ftnref1">[1]</a> In addition, an estimated 3.9 million refugees have fled Ukraine since 24 February 2022.<a href="#_ftn2" name="_ftnref2">[2]</a> Being displaced, like living in a war zone, is a traumatic life event with long lasting consequences.
It is imperative that a cease-fire is instituted as quickly as possible to save further death and destruction while a lasting peace is negotiated. Therefore, I call on you to commit every diplomatic effort to ensure a cease-fire is negotiated and continue to push for negotiations for lasting peace to be a priority of the Russian and Ukrainian governments. This will ensure fewer deaths both of military personnel and civilians and bring a sense of relief to the streets of Ukraine. Lasting peace in Eastern Europe need to be built. It cannot be built as the bombs continue to fall and civillians continue to die.
